Job Summary

Position Title: Sleep Psychologist

 

Essen Health Care | Sleep Medicine Program

 

Position Summary: Essen Health Care is seeking a Sleep Psychologist to support our Sleep Medicine program. This role will provide psychological assessment and treatment for patients with insomnia and other sleep-related concerns, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and behavioral sleep medicine.

 

The Sleep Psychologist will collaborate with sleep medicine providers and other clinical team members to develop individualized treatment plans and improve patients’ sleep, daily functioning, and quality of life.

Responsibilities

  • Assess patients’ sleep patterns, behavioral concerns, and psychological factors contributing to insomnia and other sleep difficulties.
  • Provide CBT-I and other evidence-based behavioral interventions through individual and, as appropriate, group sessions.
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and monitor progress using sleep diaries, patient feedback, and standardized assessment tools.
  • Educate patients on sleep habits, stimulus control, relaxation strategies, and other techniques that support treatment.
  • Address anxiety, stress, and other psychological factors affecting sleep.
  • Support patients experiencing behavioral barriers to prescribed sleep treatments, including PAP therapy.
  • Collaborate with sleep medicine providers, primary care providers, and behavioral health clinicians to coordinate care.
  • Maintain timely, accurate clinical documentation in the electronic health record.
  • Contribute to the development of clinical workflows and patient education materials for the Sleep Medicine program.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, or a related psychology field.

  • Active New York State psychologist license, or eligibility for licensure before starting.

  • Demonstrated training and clinical experience in CBT-I and insomnia treatment.

  • Experience assessing and treating behavioral and psychological factors affecting sleep.

  • Strong communication, clinical documentation, and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Specialized training or certification in behavioral sleep medicine.

  • Experience working in a sleep medicine clinic or integrated medical setting.

  • Experience treating patients with co-occurring medical and behavioral health conditions.

  • Experience providing group treatment and telehealth services.

  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills.
