Product Owner – Digital Care Platform (ecares health)

Overview: Healthcare is broken — especially in underserved communities like the Bronx, where more than 66% of patients rely on Medicaid. Fragmented systems, outdated workflows, and disconnected data lead to poor health outcomes, clinician burnout, and unnecessary financial strain on both patients and providers.

We are a healthcare technology startup spun out of Essen Health Care, one of the largest multispecialty medical groups serving the Bronx and surrounding communities. For more than two decades, Essen has delivered frontline care to tens of thousands of patients across primary care, specialty care, urgent care, home-based services, and population health programs. ecares is built directly from those real-world operations — not theory.

We work hand-in-hand with Essen’s physicians, care teams, and healthcare operators to build a modern care delivery platform that connects the entire patient journey; from scheduling and care coordination to lab results, communication, and billing. Position title: Product Owner – Digital Care Platform (ecares health)

Job Summary: Essen Healthcare is transforming ecares health into a next-generation care coordination and operations platform that supports providers, staff, and patients across the entire healthcare journey.

This role sits at the center of product, operations, and technology. You will define what gets built, why it matters, and how it gets delivered — ensuring ecares health solves real operational and clinical problems while scaling as a platform for Essen and external healthcare organizations.

This is not a backlog-only Product Owner role. This is a strategic product leadership position for someone who understands healthcare workflows, business operations, and how to translate them into powerful, scalable technology.

What You’ll Own:

You will be responsible for shaping and executing the product vision for ecares, including:

• Care coordination workflows
• Scheduling, provider and patient journeys
• Clinical + non-clinical operational processes
• Communication, lab results, and data visibility
• Integration with eClinicalWorks (eCW) and other systems
• External client implementations

Your goal is to ensure the platform:

• Makes healthcare delivery easier
• Improves patient and provider experience
• Drives operational efficiency
• Can be successfully deployed across multiple organizations

 What You’ll Do

As Principal Product Owner, you will:

• Partner with:
  • Clinical leaders
  • Operations teams
  • Engineers
  • External healthcare clients
• Identify real-world workflow problems and turn them into product solutions
• Define:
  • Product requirements
  • User stories
  • Feature priorities
  • Success metrics
• Own the roadmap for major platform capabilities
• Ensure features are designed to be:
  • Scalable
  • Configurable
  • Client-ready
• Guide engineering teams on:
  • What to build
  • Why it matters
  • How it should function
• Help onboard and support new client organizations using ecares
• Continuously evaluate how healthcare operations can be improved through better software

This role blends product management, healthcare consulting, and platform ownership.

 What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who understands both healthcare operations and modern product management.

You should have:

• 5+ years of experience in:
  • Product management
  • Product ownership
• Deep understanding of:
  • Clinical workflows
  • Scheduling, care coordination, and revenue cycle touchpoints
  • How healthcare organizations actually function
  • Strong understanding of business objectives and the ability to design technology-enabled workflows to achieve them.
• Experience working directly with:
  • Providers
  • Operations leaders
  • Clients or end users
• Ability to translate complex healthcare problems into clear product requirements
• Comfort working in fast-moving, startup-style environments
• Experience working with engineers to ship real software

Healthcare EHR or care management platform experience (eCW, Epic, Athena, etc.) is a strong plus.
