Job Summary

Position title: Vice President of Facility Operations

 

Reporting to: Chief Operational Officer

 

Job Summary: Essen Health Care is seeking a seasoned Vice President of Facility Operations to provide executive leadership over all facility-related operations across its outpatient and clinical footprint. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, compliant, efficient, and patient-ready facilities that support high-quality care delivery, organizational growth, and operational excellence.

 

The VP will oversee facility maintenance, life-safety systems, space planning, capital projects, vendor management, and regulatory readiness across all sites. This leader will partner closely with clinical, operational, and executive stakeholders to ensure facilities are optimized for performance, safety, and scalability.

Responsibilities

Facility Operations & Infrastructure

  • Provide executive oversight of all facility operations across multiple outpatient and clinical sites
  • Ensure facilities are safe, functional, clean, and fully operational at all times
  • Oversee preventive maintenance programs for building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life safety, and medical gas systems
  • Standardize facility operating procedures and response protocols across all locations

Regulatory Compliance & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and standards, including:
    • The Joint Commission (TJC)
    • OSHA
    • Department of Health (DOH)
    • Local, state, and federal facility and life-safety requirements
  • Maintain continuous survey and inspection readiness
  • Lead facility-related audits, inspections, and corrective action plans
  • Partner with Compliance and Safety teams on risk mitigation and incident response

Capital Projects & Space Planning

  • Lead facility capital planning, renovations, expansions, and site build-outs
  • Partner with Real Estate, Construction, and external vendors on new site development and leasehold improvements
  • Oversee space planning to ensure efficient clinical and operational workflows
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and vendor performance

Vendor & Contract Management

  • Oversee all facility-related vendors, including maintenance, security, cleaning, waste management, and construction partners
  • Negotiate and manage service contracts to ensure quality, cost control, and service-level adherence
  • Evaluate vendor performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives

Financial & Budget Management

  • Own facility operations budgets, including operating expenses and capital expenditures
  • Partner with Finance on forecasting, cost controls, and ROI analysis for facility investments
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising safety or quality
  • Ensure appropriate resource allocation aligned with organizational growth

Emergency Preparedness & Business Continuity

  • Develop and maintain emergency preparedness, disaster response, and business continuity plans
  • Lead facility response during emergencies, outages, or adverse events
  • Coordinate with clinical, IT, and operations teams to minimize service disruptions

Leadership & Team Development

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing facility operations leadership team
  • Establish clear accountability, performance metrics, and development plans
  • Foster a culture of safety, responsiveness, and operational excellence
  • Partner with HR and Talent Acquisition on workforce planning and succession strategy

 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree (MBA, MHA, Engineering, or related field) preferred
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in healthcare facility operations or large-scale facilities management
  • Proven experience leading multi-site healthcare or clinical facilities
  • Strong knowledge of healthcare regulatory, safety, and life-safety standards
  • Demonstrated experience managing capital projects and large operating budgets
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in large outpatient or ambulatory healthcare networks
  • Familiarity with The Joint Commission and Department of Health surveys
  • Experience supporting rapid growth or multi-site expansion
  • Bilingual (Spanish preferred)
