Job Summary

Position Title: Senior Manager, Credentialing & Malpractice

 

Job Summary: The Senior Manager of Credentialing & Malpractice will oversee all aspects of the credentialing, re-credentialing, and malpractice coverage processes for clinical providers within a large outpatient healthcare organization. This individual will ensure compliance with all regulatory, payer, and organizational standards, while supporting the timely onboarding and privileging of healthcare professionals. This role requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and a deep understanding of healthcare regulations and risk management practices.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the end-to-end credentialing and re-credentialing processes for all clinical staff, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
  • Oversee the malpractice coverage process, including initial enrollment, renewals, claims tracking, and communication with insurance carriers.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of NCQA, CMS, NYS Department of Health, and other applicable regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR, legal, compliance, and medical leadership to ensure smooth provider onboarding and ongoing credentialing maintenance.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Manage and maintain credentialing software systems and databases; ensure data integrity and reporting accuracy.
  • Serve as the liaison between the organization and external entities such as health plans, insurance carriers, and credentialing verification organizations.
  • Monitor and report key metrics related to credentialing timelines, expirables, and malpractice coverage.
  • Train and supervise credentialing staff, providing coaching, support, and performance evaluations.
  • Address and resolve any discrepancies, delays, or issues related to credentialing or malpractice.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in healthcare administration, public health, or related field preferred
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in credentialing and/or malpractice in a healthcare setting
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in a supervisory or management role
  • Strong understanding of credentialing regulations, payer requirements, and risk management
  • Experience with credentialing software (e.g., PARCS, MedTrainer, or similar systems)
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of outpatient clinical workflows and provider onboarding preferred
  • CHC (Certified in Healthcare Credentialing) or similar certification is a plus
