Job Summary

The EEG/EMG Technician will perform both electroencephalogram (EEG) and electromyography (EMG) procedures under the direction of a neurologist or physiatrist. This hybrid role requires flexibility to work in outpatient clinics, hospital settings, and possibly remote review/processing, ensuring high-quality diagnostic studies are obtained in compliance with AANEM and ACNS standards. 

Responsibilities

EEG Duties: 

  • Prepare patients and equipment for EEG testing. 
  • Apply electrodes using the International 10-20 system. 
  • Monitor EEG recordings and annotate clinical events in real time. 
  • Assist in long-term monitoring (LTM), ambulatory EEGs, and video EEGs when needed. 
  • Ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure. 

EMG Duties: 

  • Set up and calibrate EMG and nerve conduction study (NCS) equipment. 
  • Assist physicians with EMG/NCS procedures including electrode placement and patient prep. 
  • Accurately document waveforms, latency, and amplitude readings. 
  • Ensure sterilization and maintenance of EMG equipment and supplies. 

General Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation. 
  • Educate patients about procedures and answer any questions. 
  • Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean work environment. 
  • Participate in continuing education and competency training. 
  • Provide cross-coverage for other neurodiagnostic modalities as needed. 

Qualifications

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Neurodiagnostic Technology program or equivalent training. 
  • Certification: 
  • Registered EEG Technologist (R. EEG T.) preferred or eligible 
  • CNCT or R.NCS.T. certification preferred for EMG/NCS 
  • BLS/CPR certification required 
  • Experience: 
  • 1–3 years of experience in EEG and/or EMG strongly preferred 
  • Strong knowledge of neurophysiology and electrophysiological testing 
  • Skills: 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills 
  • Strong attention to detail and technical aptitude 
  • Comfortable working with diverse patient populations 

Work Schedule: 

  • Hybrid position: Mix of in-clinic, hospital-based, and remote documentation/review work 
  • May include on-call hours, weekends, or evenings depending on departmental needs 

 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Ability to stand for extended periods 
  • Manual dexterity for electrode application and equipment handling 
  • Capable of lifting/moving equipment up to 25 lbs 

$30-$45 an hour
