Job Summary

Position: Director of Service Line Management for Endocrinology/Nutrition and Ophthalmology/Optometry

 

Job summary: The Director of Service Line Management for Endocrinology/Nutrition and Ophthalmology/Optometry is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of these specialties. This role focuses on expanding access, improving clinical outcomes, and driving service line growth. The director partners with clinical teams to develop innovative care models, enhance patient education, and implement technology solutions. Responsibilities include financial management, program development, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations, ensuring high-quality, efficient patient care
  • Collaborate with providers to optimize care delivery
  • Manage budgets and monitor financial performance
  • Lead initiatives to improve clinical outcomes (e.g., diabetes management, vision screening)
  • Foster community partnerships and referral relationships
  • Utilize data analytics to identify trends and drive improvements
  • Monitor and improve service line performance through KPIs such as patient access, visit volumes, quality measures, patient satisfaction, and financial performance.
  • Partner with Finance to develop and manage budgets, forecast service line growth, and optimize reimbursement and cost-efficiency.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to improve care coordination, reduce health disparities, and expand access to specialty care for underserved populations.
  • Support physician recruitment, onboarding, and performance management.
  • Lead efforts around regulatory compliance, safety, accreditation standards, and quality improvement.
  • Identify and support opportunities for telehealth integration, patient education, and community engagement.
  • Serve as a liaison between service lines and executive leadership, ensuring alignment and transparency across teams.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, Nursing, or a related clinical or administrative field required.

  • Master’s degree (MHA, MBA, MPH, or related) strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive healthcare leadership experience, with at least 3–5 years managing or overseeing specialty service lines.

  • Direct experience in managing ambulatory or specialty care services such as endocrinology, nutrition services, ophthalmology, or optometry preferred.

  • Proven experience in operational efficiency, access improvement, and patient experience initiatives.

  • Familiarity with chronic disease management and preventative care models, especially related to diabetes, thyroid disorders, vision care, and nutrition programs.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of outpatient specialty care operations, regulatory requirements, and quality metrics specific to endocrinology and ophthalmology.

  • Skilled in performance improvement, care coordination, and patient throughput strategies.

  • Financial acumen, including budget development, revenue cycle oversight, and cost-containment strategies.

  • Ability to analyze and act on clinical, financial, and operational data to drive decision-making.

  • Competency in EMR systems (e.g., Epic) and healthcare analytics tools.
