Job Summary

Position Title: Nurse Manager- Women’s Health

 

Job Summary: The Nurse Manager for Women’s Health is responsible for overseeing the delivery of high-quality, compassionate care in the Women’s Health unit. This includes managing the nursing staff, coordinating patient care services, ensuring compliance with healthcare standards, and promoting a supportive environment for women’s health services such as obstetrics, gynecology, and prenatal care. The Nurse Manager will lead efforts to enhance patient outcomes while fostering a team-oriented approach within the department.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Leadership & Staff Management: Supervise and lead a team of nurses and healthcare providers in the Women’s Health department, including obstetrical, gynecological, and neonatal care teams. Responsible for recruiting, training, mentoring, and evaluating staff performance.
  • Patient Care & Safety: Oversee the care provided to patients, ensuring adherence to evidence-based practices in obstetrics, gynecology, and other aspects of women’s health. Ensure a safe environment for labor and delivery, postpartum care, and gynecological procedures.
  • Quality Improvement & Clinical Outcomes: Lead initiatives to improve patient outcomes, quality of care, and patient satisfaction. Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement projects aimed at enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit.
  • Operational Oversight: Manage day-to-day operations of the Women’s Health unit, including staff scheduling, resource allocation, and ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available and properly maintained.
  • Compliance & Regulatory Adherence: Ensure that the Women’s Health department complies with all local, state, and federal regulations as well as hospital policies. Oversee infection control measures, patient safety initiatives, and maintain standards set by regulatory bodies such as Joint Commission or other accreditation agencies.
  • Patient & Family Advocacy: Serve as a point of contact for patient and family concerns, ensuring they are addressed with empathy, understanding, and professionalism. Advocate for patient needs and ensure culturally sensitive care for diverse populations.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Foster open and effective communication between nurses, physicians, support staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure holistic and integrated care for women. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans.
  • Educational & Professional Development: Promote ongoing education and professional development for the nursing team. Stay current with the latest evidence-based practices in women’s health and disseminate this knowledge to the staff.
  • Budget & Resource Management: Oversee the budget for the Women’s Health unit, ensuring effective use of resources and cost-effective care delivery without compromising patient care quality.

 

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in NYS
  • Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical nursing experience in Women’s Health or a related specialty with at least 2 years of leadership experience in a nursing supervisory or management role.
  • Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification required. Additional certifications in maternal-child health (e.g., RNC-OB, RNC-MNN, etc.) or women’s health nursing preferred.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and communication skills, ability to manage multiple tasks, and demonstrated expertise in women’s health nursing practices. Knowledge of clinical guidelines, regulations, and patient safety standards in obstetrics and gynecology.

Work Conditions:

  • Full-time position with on-call availability as required by the Women’s Health department.
  • May involve evening, weekend, or holiday shifts based on departmental needs.
